A LITTLE HISTORY
Food distribution originates from the Roman Empire. At the time, the population followed a diet based mainly on grains. The Roman government had to make sure that this resource was always available to the people. This gave place to “Annona” which originally meant “yearly return” and over time, came to represent the distribution of all pertinent foods in the Roman diet.
Food distribution, today, is defined as the process in which a general population is supplied with food. Centuries after the Romans, it is still considered one of the most important elements of our societal structure.
